Plan B: Advice for those considering freelancing

The chapter’s first professional development meeting of the 2012 will focus on freelancing. Need a Plan B for your career? Want to learn a little extra money moonlighting, thinking about making the jump to self-employment or been forced by unemployment to go it alone? This meeting’s for you.

Our panelists are all successfully self-employed freelance public relations professionals. They’ll tell you what led them to freelancing, what they like (and don’t like) about life without an employer, and provide some dos and don’ts for making self employment work for you.

Our confirmed panelists will include:

Rick Amme, founder of crisis PR firm Amme & Associates. Amme is a former television news anchor who has spent 17 years helping organizations of all types communicate while under the stress of a crisis. He is a prolific writer and speaker on crisis communications topics and also an expert in media training.

Sherry Duvall Ford, APR, is a seasoned corporate communications executive who last year struck out on her own at SDF Consulting. She knows not only what it’s like to become self employed after years of corporate employment, but also understands how companies – potential clients – view freelancers.

Stay tuned as we add additional speakers to the session.

Successful freelancers must be self-motivated, productive and able to build new relationships without the safety net that an employer can offers. Even if you’re not thinking about self-employment, entrepreneurial public relations pros have something to offer to all of us.

Please join us. “Plan B: Finding Success Freelancing” will take place at Almance Regional Medical Center, which is right off I-40/85 in Burlington.
