Welcome from the President
Ken Smith, APR, 2009 President

Welcome to the Web site for the Tar Heel Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, one of the fastest growing PRSA chapters in the nation. Our growth is the direct result of providing dynamic, relevant programming for our members. Currently, our roster boasts more than 130 members covering the whole spectrum of practitioners from government to corporate, nonprofit to academic.

Our membership demands quality and the TarHeel Chapter has delivered by bringing in some of the most important minds in the industry. Speakers have included:

  • Joe Eply, a recent PRSA Silver Anvil winner and founder of Epley and Associates
  • Charles Bierbauer, former CNN correspondent and dean of the College of Mass Communications and Information Studies at the University of South Carolina
  • Jonathan Halls, media futurist and former BBC learning executive
  • Al Tortorella, the godfather of modern crisis management who was a part of Tylenol’s successful crisis response after a product tampering case

I invite you to attend one of our luncheons or our professional development conference. Take advantage of the benefits offered by our chapter by attending meetings, using the resources on this site and, ultimately, joining our chapter. We look forward to seeing you at the next meeting. If you have questions, please e-mail me at president@prsatarheel.org.

About Our Chapter

The Tar Heel Chapter represents the Triad region (Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem), the western Piedmont and throughout western North Carolina to Tennessee. Our chapter was chartered in November 1981. In addition to national dues, chapter dues are $45.

Membership

You are invited to join other professionals who are gaining excellent benefits through the Tar Heel Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Too often, successful professionals think they have little time to respond to career development needs because of today's workload. However, the benefits of networking with other professionals and hearing best practices are an investment in both your personal and professional success.

PRSA provides a wide variety of convenient services locally and nationally to address all of your career development needs. In addition to monthly professional development meetings, teleseminars and networking socials, the Tar Heel Chapter publishes a monthly electronic newsletter with the latest news about members and chapter activities. The newsletter is sent to prospective members at no cost for up to three months. If you want to receive the newsletter, please forward your contact information to the e-mail address for our VP of Membership, below.

The contacts and professional development offered by our local chapter makes membership well worth its price. If you have any questions about the chapter or need a membership application, please contact the vice president of membership at membership@prsatarheel.org.

You can also sign up online at:  http://iweb.prsa.org/iweb/LogIn/login.aspx . (Applicants should fill in the Tar Heel Chapter of North Carolina as their local chapter.)
